Back home

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

Got back home late last night and boy, am I knackered!! Not much planned for this weekend, looking forward to a quiet and relaxing Saturdaynight!

…and today it’s iDay (iPhone Day :))

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Today Apple will release the iPhone…considering the big buzz around it in the last months and the extensive newscoverage everywhere the last days it definately will be a HUGE success. And if they are able to deliver what is promised (should be possible…hey, it’s Apple :)), the device will set the new standard in the industry…just check out the introduction video, this is an amazing device (and simple to use too!)…definately a must-have!

I want, I want, I want, can’t wait till it’s released in Europe!! 🙂

Good memories

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Adam brought back some good memories from October 2004 in his Daily Source Code, #625…grrrrreat to hear this while being in Norway, sitting in the bus to work…totally trippin’!!

Dude, guess I won’t catch you here on the road, or would I? 🙂

PS. hmm, realized that I wasn’t even blogging back in those days, sjeez!

This day in 2005

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Today it has been two years ago when my grandpa passed away…he is still with us in thoughts!

First norwegian sentence

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Jeg var på båt tur på onsdag – I was on a boattrip on Wednesday!

That wasn’t too hard was it? Oof…

QOTD June 25 2007

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Steve Jobs: "So
we went to Atari and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got this amazing thing, even
built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us?
Or we’ll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary, we’ll
come work for you.’ And they said, ‘No.’ So then we went to
Hewlett-Packard, and they said, ‘Hey, we don’t need you. You haven’t
got through college yet.’"

Rainy weekend in Oslo

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

A major bummer; the weather has been crap the last days :(…it made me miss a concert near the Oslo harbor Fridaynight as well as the midsummernight celibrations in the Oslo fjord yesterday. Today was no exception, it has been raining so bad that I saw a car stuck in a flooded tunnel!!

Check out the pics:

I haven’t seen anything like this even in The Netherlands, where I live 5 meters below sealevel…amazing…I guess it’s a welcome to Norway! 🙁

Anyway, gonna hit the hay early tonight, busy second week coming up!

My new phone; Nokia E65

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

A new job, a new phone…I had the opportunity to *choose* a phone, which was nice for a change. Did some poking around and the winner is: the Nokia E65!!

It’s a smartphone, I hope it’s not outsmarting me :), so besides calling there is more much more that you can do; the WiFi for instance makes it possible to connect to the internet whenever there is an WiFi-accesspoint around as you’re used to…*without * bearing the high costs for 3G mobile networking.

I tried the Gmail and Podcasting (alternative) applications already and they truly are a charm. Was able to overcome a returning problem I normally run into when being away from home; my iPod is syncing to my Mac mini at home which is mastering iTunes including podcasts. Hehe, I catched caught up with this weeks Adam Curry‘s Daily Source Code…am truly becoming more and more mobile!!

There is so much more in this phone, need more than just a few days to ace the device, but sofar…a happy geek here, up in Norway! 🙂

Future house

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Went to our future house today and got a tour around it. Am really looking forward to move in from August, the place totally kicks ass!

It’s in a nice and quiet environment, very close to nature and not too far from Oslo…uhhh, well, the first trip going there by bus wasn’t that big of a success, the tranfer from one bus to another, finding the right busstation took a while, almost got lost in the city, lost in translation eh?…still have to find my way around in Oslo. 🙂

Days are flying

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

I’ve had four days at work now and everything is grrrrreat. Time however is flying, usually a good sign as time flies when you’re having fun…:)

Boattrip

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

A nice way to start working; there is a social event this afternoon/evening which I will join…a boattrip in the Oslo fjord!! Free drinks and a great way to meet my new colleagues. I’ll be leaving NOW, yay! 🙂

QOTD June 19 2007

Steven Weinberg: "With
or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and
evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things,
that takes religion."

First day in the office

Monday, June 18th, 2007

I’ve successfully managed to get myself through the first day at work, it actually wasn’t that hard to change back to working mode after the time off. 🙂

It was really nice to meet and talk to my former colleagues, who have become my new colleagues! Been busy arranging things like the entrance pass to the building, etc. and had a first meeting with my new boss. We have started to define what I should actually do here hehe:).

The job title is Program Manager Customer Satisfaction, so I will be responsible for satisfying our customers…uhhhh, in every way?!? Aahhhh! 🙂

It involves working within the company to streamline inter-departmental workprocesses (high attention for customer focussed business practises) and it also means going out to the customers (UN, NATO, WHO to name a few!) and get a good understanding for their needs, points to improve, issues to take care of etc. in ALL phases of our (satellite) service delivery (Sales, Project implementation and Operations). Verrrry interesting and challenging!

Byfesten Lillestrom, TNT

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Directly after I arrived at Willy and Katka’s place yesterday, we went to the ‘Byfesten‘ in Lillestrom. Literally byfesten means ‘city party’…basically it’s all about drinking beer and see bands performing on a big stage in the city center…guess it’s a good way to start my integration process 🙂

It was absolutely great to see the 80’s hardrock band TNT…big hair, high pitched voices and raging guitarsolos! A trip back to the days of Headbangers Ball with Adam Curry everrrryyybody, yeah!!

Gone!

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

Am leaving NOW…on my way to future! 🙂

Last day being ‘Koos’

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Today is my last ‘official’ day as ‘Koos Werkeloos‘ (‘Joe Unemployed’? :))…mixed feelings in a way, but totally ready for the next step; will fly to Norway tomorrow and am gonna start my new job this Monday!

Death Proof

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

It seems my blog is becoming a movie-blog huh? Well, it won’t! 🙂

Anyway, I went to Death Proof, the new Tarantino yesterday…terrific! Typical Tarantino movie with ‘a lot about nothing’ dialogues, cult-style editing and right on the bone action, I loved it!!

The movie is part of the double feature Grindhouse, can’t wait to see Robert Rodriguez part ‘Planet Terror‘.

Bowling for Columbine

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Finally (!) saw Micheal Moore’s Bowling for Columbine last night, impressive! The movie has been high on my ‘to-watch’ list for a long time and not without reason…I think everyone agrees that it paints a pretty good picture on the problems US society has with their (constitutional) right for everyone to possess guns. South Parks American History (on YouTube) explains it all…FEAR, definately not good for living a relaxed life.

Marilyn Mansons take on it (also on YouTube) was probably a revelation for most people.

At the end of the interview Micheal Moore asks: ‘If you were to talk directly to the kids at Columbine and the people in that community, what would you say to them if they were here right now?’

Marilyn Manson responds with: “I wouldn’t say a single word to them, I would listen to what they have to say and that’s what no one did!”. Wow!

QOTD June 12 2007

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

As promised:

Amber Deckers: "Never
let the fear of failure be an excuse for not trying. Society tells us
that to fail is the most terrible thing in the world, but I know it
isn’t. Failure is part of what makes us human."

Blogging 24/7

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

It (finally? :)) occured to me that for some reason I don’t blog in the weekends?!? A bit strange since this blog *is* personal and I *do* live seven days a week, eh? So, decided that I’ll write in the weekends too, time permitted and if there is anything worth writing about obviously…that shouldn’t be a problem, the internet is ‘on’ 24/7…:)

I also noticed that (coincidentally!) I started my ‘blogging week’ throughout the last weeks with a Quote Of The Day on Mondays, perhaps to glue blogging on weekdays and non-blogging in the weekend?!? I didn’t post a QOTD yesterday though…will put one up in a minute!
