Spring hiking in winter wonderland

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

Weather this weekend has been super, the sun really showed its best side (melting last Thursday’s snow), and I decided to connect with nature. Two great hikes through winter wonderland in spring-like weather, all ‘in my backyard’, I love it!!

Phoney KONY 2012…a SCAM!

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

A pretty controversial title for this blogpost, but I felt it needed to be like this. In the past days I have seen the KONY 2012 video shared on Facebook by of my FB friends, most of them probably watched the video and shared it, without hesitation or any fact-checking…the clip is going viral with as of today, over 67 MILLION views on YouTube (I wonder if all those people really watch the full 30 minutes…).

Don’t take me wrong, I do support the core cause; anyone, and in this case Joseph Kony, who is capturing children and turn them into weapons for war, has to be found, captured and be held responsible for crimes committed.

I however do NOT believe that the KONY 2012 ‘movement’ is set up for all the right reasons and I would encourage everyone to find the message behind what that is really being put out by the media (heavily supported by Facebook).

A perfect start for this would be the following YouTube clip, which is an audio recording of last Thursday’s No Agenda podcast #389 with my good friend Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak (hero’s in deconstructing the REAL news behind the news! 😉 )

Honestly, if you used 30 minutes on the KONY 2012 video, you need to take another 20 minutes for this one, it is worth it!

;

;

For more supporting information and links, the ones shown in the video, go to the No Agenda #389 show notes, click on ‘Shownotes’ at the top and scroll down to KONY.

All in all, it turns out that the real reason why this cause is getting the attention of so many, is OIL (ain’t it always the oil!).

The oil found in Uganda in the recent years makes it viable for the U.S. to fulfill a long-held wish of establishing presence in Africa (AFRICOM, the U.S. Africa Military Command). Uganda, and Joseph Kony, provides the perfect opportunity (also check out this report). Does anyone see the resemblance with Hussein/Iraq and Gaddafi/Libya??

Interestingly enough, Joseph Kony is presumably not even *in* Uganda anymore, as he is supposed to be hiding in D.R. Congo.

Oh, and as for the Invisible Children Inc. organization: if you love numbers, check their 2011 tax form and follow where the money comes from and goes to…

Lastly, I sincerely hope that Joseph Kony (if he is alive still, no one has heard or seen him for many years) will be found and prosecuted.

PS. Who came up with the idea to have the ‘KONY 2012 Day’ on April 20 (=4/20…420, IN your face, wtf!)

I am going to Mozambique!!

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

For years I have thought about doing something more with my life, something more than ‘just’ work and enjoy the relatively easy life in Western Europe, physically contributing to a better world by DOING something rather than supporting from a distance.

In January I decided that 2012 would be the year to put action to words and thoughts, and so it will be: I am going to Mozambique from May 11-20!! Together with a team of twelve I will participate in the Habitat for Humanity Global Village program, building housing for orphans and their caretakers in the Gaza province in Mozambique!

There is still lot to arrange, but I am THRILLED about this and can’t wait to go…obviously you can expect updates here on the blog (as well as on the team page).

The new iPad

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Well, well, Apple still had a surprise in its sleeve today; ‘everyone’ knew that the company would release a new iPad today, and most of the specs where ‘guessed’ (=leaked) correct.

The one thing that no one had correct was the name; iPad 3 sounded most logical as the successor of last years iPad 2, iPad HD was a possibility because of the high resolution display (‘Resolutionary’ as Apple calls it), but no, the name of Apple’s latest and greatest iPad is simply: ‘The new iPad‘…uhhh, HUH?!?

Specs for the device make it another iWant! 😉 :

  • Retina display with 2048 x 1536 resolution (the best display ever on a mobile device)
  • Dual-core CPU, Quad-core graphics…so it is FAST!
  • iSight (HD) front camera and 5MP rear camera
  • Voice dictation
  • support for 4G/LTE (HSPA+) networks, 73 Mbps (!) max

Besides everything iPad / ‘The new iPad’, Apple also announced a new AppleTV and iOS 5.1…enough goodies for one day! 😉

Watch the keynote speech if you’re a true Apple fanboy! 😉

Mama & Papa

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

Misha has been pretty ‘talkative’ lately and today we managed to record his ‘mama’ and ‘papa’, sooooo sweet!! 😉

I am not sure if he really understands the meaning, or knows who responds to ‘papa’ or ‘mama’, but he will soon!

This was such a nice moment this Sunday!

Song of the Day: 7 Seconds

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

There are a lot of good memories associated with today’s Song of the Day, I heard it first (and a lot) in Adelaide, Australia while being there for my practical training at the University of South Australia in 1994, a fantastic time!

Youssou N’Dour and Neneh Cherry with ‘7 Seconds‘, a remarkable song about prejudice: the first positive 7 seconds in the life of a new born child, not being aware of color difference between people and not knowing about the problems and violence in our world.

Njoy!

2500km on electric power

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Good, I have driven the first 2500 ‘electric’ kilometers with the LEAF, it really feels as having a taste of future; (still) a fantastic experience! (and yes, this is just about a car and indeed, very un-‘important’… 😉 )

The one thing about driving cars in Norway in wintertime is the sh*tload of dirt they get on them in no time: so, black LEAFs turn into gray (and red/silver/white/blue LEAFs also turn into gray for that matter). Luckily the sun was shining this afternoon as if it is summer already, and a hand wash turned grey back into black! 😉

Misha 5 months (and one day ;))

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Misha turned 22 weeks today, the fast growing angel is now exactly 5 months (+ one nonexistent day) old! 😉

All is good with his royal cuteness, and also the doctor (or whatever her ‘title’ is 😉 ) was happy with his development; length, weight, ability to turn over, responses, etc.

Just look at this big guy in his ‘bink‘ shirt! 😉
