Salma Hayek: “People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.”

2500 blogposts!

Monday, June 18th, 2012

This blogpost marks my 2500th post…wow!!

The road to #2500 took more than 7 years, my first post was 2685 days ago, on February 10 2005. It took 1219 days to reach the first milestone; I published post #1000 on June 13 2008 and the next 1000 posts took a lot less, ‘just’ 989 days (blogpost #2000 on February 27th, 2011). A lot faster than the first 1000 mainly caused as I started a daily blogging routine on June 12 2007.

And the pace is increasing even more, since I recently started a true daily Quote of the Day (QOTD)…post 3000 should therefore come somewhere around April 4 2013…I uhhh, keep you posted! 😉

Father’s Day and the NL-POR match

Sunday, June 17th, 2012

Today is my first Father’s Day and Misha gave me a lovely poem…SO sweet!!!

The other BIG event today is obviously the last group match in the Euro2012…NL *has to* win with 2 goals difference against Portugal (AND Germany has to beat Denmark)…it requires a miracle, and that is what Misha and I go for!!

Hmmm, I *love* an orange Tompouce!!

Key Keeper

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

It is the burden of being in NL while living abroad; a *heavy* left pocket caused by a key ring full of keys. Four house keys (various houses, not all mine though), three car keys and some small random keys…ha, I guess you can call me the Key Keeper! 😉

My mother turns 63 today and honestly; what better present can one living abroad give than to *be* there, at her Birthday party, *with* her grandson! 😉

Happy Birthday (grand)ma!! (looking forward to the cake!)

Apple’s WWDC 2012

Monday, June 11th, 2012

Whenever Apple has something to announce, it seems that the world is standing still to see what the Cupertino trendsetter and market disruptor has to say, especially in the recent years. Today is no different, as Apple’s Tom Cook gave a keynote speech to open its yearly Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

New goodies announced today:

New MacBook Pro with Retina Display, watch the video; they did it again…iWant! 😉

– a hefty update of the MacBook Air and Pro specs (still happy with mine)

– Mac OS X Mountain Lion, coming in July. Not sure if this update is for me, although it has some nice things (iCloud integration, Messages app bringing iMessage to the Mac, AirPlay Mirroring allowing to stream of what’s on your Mac to an HDTV, and more…)

iOS 6 preview, coming this fall with Facebook integration, new Maps app including turn-by-turn navigation, Shared Photo Streams, the Passbook app, FaceTime over cellular networks (!), VIP Mailboxes, nice options to handle an incoming call, and more…your iPhone is gonna be better than it already was!

For geeks: you can find the keynote speech here!

Next in line coming from Apple; the rumored AppleTV (iTV?) and the iPhone 5…announcements expected in September.

Song of the Day: Love Rears Its Ugly Head

Friday, June 8th, 2012

Some songs stick with you for years and years. Living Colour‘s Love Rears Its Ugly Head is such a song; from the first time I heard this song, it ‘came in’ and never left.

Great riffs, interesting lyrics and an amazing voice make a fantastic song: Njoy!

John Eliot: “The idea of perfect closes your mind to new standards.. When you drive hard toward one ideal, you miss opportunities and paths, not to mention hurting your confidence. Believe in your potential and then go out and explore it; don’t limit it.”
