Word of the Year: ‘Twitteren’

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

During the Onze Taal (’Our Language’) congress in Utrecht, the word ‘twitteren’ was elected Word of the Year 2009 in The Netherlands. The word means ‘to twitter’, a trend that has gone completely mainstream in 2009.

I first tweeted on July 6 2009: ‘Just subscribed to Twitter…couldn’t hold off any longer :)

This brilliant Monty Python clip has been on my mind for weeks now…about time to put it on the blog! ;)

Hilarious!

Julebord 2009

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Tonight we have the traditional Xmas dinner/party (‘Julebord‘) with work (yes, November 20 might seem early, but remember this is Norway and Julebord should be late November/early December! ;) ). I say ‘we’ since it is the first time that partners are invited too, nice! It will a special evening at a restaurant run by a master of the culinary art and we’ll have our own DJ for the night…hmm, I suppose that means it will be PARTYYYY!!!

First blogpost from my new iPhone

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

So, first day back at work, stuck in a customer meeting the whole day (a good one, so I don’t complain ;) ) and now in a restaurant ready to enjoy a splendid fish dinner…hehe, it’s good to be back! ;) …also good because I got my new iPhone, the 3GS! Knowing the iPhone it took me less than a minute to have it up and configured AND to have the Wordpress for iPhone application among others installed. This is the first blogpost from it and (of course!) it works like a charm! ;)

QOTD November 18 2009

Real Live Preacher: “One thing is clear to me. You can’t know everything you’d like to know. You can’t do everything you’d like to do. You can’t read everything you’d like to read. You must hold onto some things and let go of others. Learning to make that choice is one of the big lessons of this life.”

Back home

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I’m back in Norway, and…JETLAGGED!! Am trying to hang in there until the early evening and then crash (haven’t slept on the Bonaire-Amsterdam flight, but did doze off for an hour orso from Amsterdam-Oslo.

All went well, luckily no problems with the standby flying this time although the come back to Norway had some surprises; a flat car battery was one of them…:( Luckily that got sorted out pretty fast so we didn’t loose too much time on the airport parking lot.

Ahhh, home sweet home…a COLD home I might add too, damn! There is no electrical heating at the moment and it takes some time to warm up the place with just wood in the fireplace, brrrr…such a difference with Bonaire!!

Fly Day

Monday, November 16th, 2009

That’s it; vacation time is over. :( At least, IF we make it on the flight back to Amsterdam, one is never sure when flying on standby.
It should be fine though, yesterdays airplane was delayed by a day, and most people should have been put on different flights already. That means that there are two flights will half the amount of passengers…hey, hey, who knows, we might be upgraded to Business Class! ;)
I’ll tweet it if we make it on the flight, so
check my Twitter status from around 10pm (European time).

The last day: BoB

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

BoB, Boating on Bonaire, a perfect activity for our last day on the island. We rented a small 19ft motorboat with enough power (115hp) for some fun! ;)
Sunbathing, boating around Klein Bonaire, snorkling at some spots that we could not reach before from the shore, drinking bubbles…life is grande!

Juggling on Klein Bonaire

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

We decided to spend another day sunbathing on the quiet beaches of Klein Bonaire, vacation time is almost over and we ‘needed’ the extra suntan. :) It wasn’t too quiet since some americanos wanted everyone to know that they have a great soundsystem on board of their yacht, typical. Oh well, let them be, as long as I can still listen to my own tunes while juggling, everyone’s happy! Metallica’s Black Album (with the energetic ‘Enter Sandman’ as first track) is a great ‘juggle-album’…;)

Moving Day

Friday, November 13th, 2009

I thought we’ve done enough moving for this year, but even during vacation we are into moving!
We already knew that the bungalow would not be available for the whole period of our stay, so today we moved into an apartment for the last three days. It sounds worse than it is (I at least associate apartments with huge buildings rising high up in the sky…;)), this apartment is great; cool interior, a swimming pool, cozy veranda, hammocks…just about everything one needs to relax, and that’s just what we do! ;)

Diving in Bonaire

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

It’s Diving Thursday today! ;)
Pretty exciting since this is the first time that we’re diving without a dive master! So far so good…actually, diving can’t get any easier than here in Bonaire; most of the dive spots can be reach from the shore, so no boating needed and there’s no current at all, easy for practising neutral boyancy! ;)
The first two dives were well over an hour at appr. 60ft (20m), and there is still room for one more dive, yay! We didn’t rent an underwater camera this time, so unfortunately no spectacular pictures as last year…oh well, there’re all in my head anyway!

a new iPhone!

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Yay, I got the confirmation that my new iPhone (3GS, 32Gb, Black) is waiting for me in the office! Hehe, I can’t wait to start playing with it, yet I am NOT gonna come back one single day sooner…life’s way to good here, although it’s nice to have something to look forward to when coming home! (besides the cold weather, even snow and the electricity in the house that is apparently unstable, according to the neighbors…?!?)

Btw. I found a fix for my old iPhone’s Ringer/Silent switch problem (at least, a fix was posted as a comment on my blogpost)…hehe, I KNEW that a software fix could do it! I’ll give it a try when I’m back home.

Washington Slagbaai NP

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

The only National Park on Bonaire, Washington Slagbaai NP, has some nice points of interests, but is mostly known for it’s wide variety of cacti (that’s plural for cactus, I had to look it up myself ;) )…it is FULL of cacti! ;)
We took some meat and shrimps with us and made ourselves a yummie BBQ lunch, shot some flamingos on the way back (well, shot photos of them that is ;) ) and concluded that we’ve had yet another great day on Bonaire!

A celebration on Klein Bonaire

Monday, November 9th, 2009

We went to Klein Bonaire (‘Little Bonaire’) today, a small island just out the west coast of Bonaire, 20 minutes with the watertaxi. There is not too much to see on the island itself, but the waters around it are packed with dive- and snorkling spots. It turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate our 19th anniversary (!): quiet, sunny (of course!), refreshing and beautiful while snorkling…perfect!! ;)

Shitheads stealing towels

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Vvrrrrr, the day started as any other; we were getting ready for another day at the beach, packed some food and drinks, went to grab the beach towels from the line next to the house where we left them to dry yesterday…uuhhh, well, the beach towels are gone!! Some shithead(s) probably thought they were the coolest beach towels on the island and decided to steal them!!! I ask you…beach towels…so sad, come on!! It has nothing to do with the value of a friggin’ beach towel, I just can’t stand ‘people’ (loosers!) who show no respect for other people’s properties…fuckfaces!

UPDATE: we just found out that the looser(s) also took the anti-mosquito candle from the table outside, jeez…it almost feels like a game of nagging the tourist. :(
