Queens Day

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

Today is Queens Day (Koninginnedag)!

The dutch are celibrating the Queen's official birthday every year on April 30, since that's a Sunday this year we celibrate it today, Saturday April 29.

It's one of the few national holidays we have. Bad luck this year though…it's weekend and we don't get a public holiday back for it 🙁 🙁

Celibrating it on April 30 is also a bit twisted since the current Queen Beatrix actually has her Birthday on January 31st?!?

She however stated that she wished to continue celebrating it publicly on April 30, as a mark of respect for her mother, Queen Juliana.

Tonight we celibrate the 'night before the day' (in dutch: 'de Nach voor de Dag')…tomorrow is Queens Day!

I'll be in The Hague checking out some bands (not Podsafe though…this is the LIVE-shit :)) and perhaps drink some colalalalas!! Uhhhh…;)

The Ultimate Answer: 42

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

From Douglas Adams' science fiction series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

The Answer to The Ultimate Question Of Life, the Universe and Everything is:

'Forty-two'!!!

Wow, is that all there is to know…42? 🙂

Currently I'm reading the second book (in the series of five); 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe'…I love it!

Comment SPAM (3)

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

I must have some friends in the Pivot development team 🙂

Two days ago I wrote about the comment spam problems I have, today the developers of the weblog-tool I use (Pivot) released an update, v1.30RC2.

From the release notes: 'Several improvements have been made but by far the biggest improvement is the addition of several tools to prevent and remove spam from your weblogs.'

YEAHHH!! Nice timing! Have just upgraded, let's see if it works!

Teracomachimici…?!?

Via Kladblog: some people seem to have way too much time at hand. Did YOU ever create a ‘Teracomachimici‘??

Smashing Pumpkins news

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

From the Smashing Pumpkins website: "It’s official, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. no release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer."

Guess we still have to hold on for some months, but things are moving…I subscribed to the mailing list; get the news first hand! 🙂

Google images and the Alfa Romeo 159 :)

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Last year I posted about a (possible) new company car, the Alfa Romeo 159. I also added a photo taken in the showroom (still a beautiful car!).

When it became clear that it was not possible to have the 159 as a company car, I posted the same photo nicely striked-through in RED. Both photos have been indexed by Google images and especially the last one generates more and more traffic to my site. Actually quite understandable if you do the search yourself (alfa romeo 159)…a page of great pictures of the 159 and then you see this one photo that is striked through, he he he 🙂 🙂

I’m still a huge fan of the car!!

Comment SPAM (2)

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Well, that was a nice idea, enabling registration…there is no such option in Pivot(!!), at least not that I found!

Major BUMMER!! Guess I have to find another way to get rid of spammers, hmm…nice…:(

Comment SPAM

Monday, April 24th, 2006

This blog is hit by comment spam quite regularly, but things seem to go worse week after week…I remember switching off the comments section on the homepage, but it didn't stop spammers to stil hit the comments 🙁

Last measure (one I actually didn't want to take) is to enable registration before any comment can be made…yeah it sucks, but I guess there is no other way, for now.

'Luckily' there are not that many comments to my posts anyway, so hardly anyone will notice 🙂

Windows Vista, you wish(ta)!

Monday, April 24th, 2006

I’m reading through an interesting article explaining why Microsoft’s Windows Vista will be a great disappointment when (if?) introduced coming year, especially if one considers the media-hype that MS has created throughout the last years around Longhorn (the codename previously used for Vista)…’Where Vista Fails‘.

Am just halfway the article now and every line makes me an even happier Mac user then I already am! 🙂

Evangelize your Blog

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Starting a blog? Here’s the How-To…well, if you want to make your living out of it, at least so it seems when reading through the tips and tricks of ‘How to Evangelize a Blog’ by Guy Kawasaki…not all blogs meet his high standards though, including mine 🙂

Apple & Windows

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

For the techies 🙂

Following the release of Intel-based Mac’s in the beginning of 2006 and the Boot Camp software enabling a dualboot of Mac OS X and Windows XP earlier this month, Robert X. Cringely shares some interesting viewpoints in the third consecutive week of "What the heck is Apple really doing with Windows?"

Tom Blair: "Silence is one of the great arts of conversation, as allowed by Cicero himself, who says, ‘there is not only an art, but an eloquence in it.’ A well bred woman may easily and effectually promote the most useful and elegant conversation without speaking a word. The modes of speech are scarcely more variable than the modes of silence."

Second life

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

For anyone having some (a lot of!) spare time on hand, check out Second Life, built your virtual life and create your own community! It reminds me a lot on Blacksun (now known as Blaxxun), a 3D virtual world which I ‘played’ in the mid 90’s.

Addictive and time-consuming! 🙂
