John M. Capozzi: “Dig where the gold is…unless you just need some exercise.”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: “Perseverance is a great element of success. If you only knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody.”
Jimmy Wales: “Most people are good. They may not be saints, but they are good.”
W. Somerset Maugham: “Life wouldn’t be worth living if I worried over the future as well as the present.”
Norway celebrates its Constitution (Grunnloven) today, signed on May 17 (‘syttende mai‘) in 1814 marking Norway’s independence from Sweden (fully realized in 1905).
Besides the eating ice cream (syttende mai seems to mark the start of summer?!) and drinking (one of the main activities of the day LoL 😉 ), the Norwegians give the celebration a quite nice touch; everyone dresses up! Most will wear a Bunad, the traditional clothing. If you don’t have one, then your best suit or dress will do! (it that sense it is totally opposite to the somewhat clownish King’s Day in NL…:) )
‘Syttende mai‘ is also known its parades; thousands march all over the country expressing their cultural pride, joy in springtime and honor of those citizens who created Norway’s constitutional government, founding her independence. Especially popular is the Children’s Procession; dressed in their best clothes or national costume, the children march with their school’s band, classmates and teachers. Joy joy!
The sun is out, it’s fan-friggin-tastic weather today! The whole country is ready for a party and so am I: GRATULERER MED DAGEN NORGE!! 🙂
Alan Saporta: “The best way to escape from a problem is to solve it.”
John Green: “There’s a place in the brain for knowing what cannot be remembered.”
A tradition like no other: today is that unique and special day in the year when one day, one hour, one minute makes a whole year difference…we turn the imaginary page of time tonight and after celebrating it we wake up in a brand New Year. By then, page 2018 of the ‘book of life and the world’ has been completely written and all experiences of the past year are stored in it.
The year of 2018 has been a year of mostly continuity for me and quite some ‘firsts’ for Misha; it started with an amazing winter, lots of fun in the snow and skiing through winter wonderland and the summer has been unusually long, super warm and sunny. My beautiful enthusiastic lovely now 7-year old angel changed his first tooth, self-handedly caught his first fish, went to a real Dance Festival with daddy (Dream Village), steered a speedboat (and wanted to become a speedboat racer), got his swimming diploma, and many more. We’re cherishing our time together in Norway and NL and the love for and from friends and family makes life complete.
The celebration of Misha’s 7th Birthday with family in NL and a party with his friends in Norway was memorable, as was having my parents and sister with kids over for a splendid Norwegian Xmas celebration.
It has been yet another busy year running my company and balance came from peace and quiet times at home, as well as (dance) events throughout the year whoopwhoop…the year flew by; a continuous process of letting go of past and getting to know the present and future possibilities…most is balanced in the end.
It is good to know that all the 2018 experiences are stored in a safe place; in my heart and my memory…I can look back, laugh, cry, read, learn, and all of that without any regrets!
Writing things down and then turning the page of time also means that things can be put to rest…it is a good moment to go on and look forward towards everything that future offers and say: “Well, hellooo 2019, here I *am*!!”
Time, it is o-so relative…I wish everyone a splendid life in the Now, filling each moment with unconditional love…share it and pass it on…
Warmth, Light and LOVE to all you angels out there!
Ho ho hoooope you have wonderful Christmas days!
Traditions for the keep; the opening of the summer festival season (for me at least 😉 ) takes place this weekend: it’s time for the Parkfeest in Oosterhout! 🙂
The tree days follow a proven concept; the first night is ‘coverband night’ (starring Red Hot Chilinators, The Ed Sheeran Experience, The Hillbilly Moonshiners Play Mumford & Sons, Delicious Surprise – Beth Hart Tribute, and The Ultimate Guns N’ Roses Tribute! We’ll be rockin’! :p
Tomorrow night’s highlights are Ronnie Flex & Deuxperience, Maan, MY BABY, Kraak & Smaak (last time I saw them was at Pohoda 2009, great show and terrible end of the festival the day after…) and De Dijk (lovely memories from 2012! 🙂 )
Sunday is family day and since Misha is with me, he’ll be partying with his daddy (or is it the other way around 😀 ?) yayyy!! 🙂
Today Norway celebrates its Constitution (May 17, ‘syttende mai’), so GRATULERER MED DAGEN Norge!!! (Congratulations Norway)
For the first time Misha is not here to participate in the traditional ‘barnetoget’ (Childrens’ Parade), so I will wave the flags at his friends who are. 🙂 Weather is absolutely lovely, so it will be good!
Besides the children focused activities, much of the celebrations seems to be about partying and drinking (somewhat comparable with King’s Day in The Netherlands) 😀 The Norwegians do give it a quite nice touch though; everyone dresses up! Most will wear a Bunad, the traditional clothing, and if you don’t have one, then your best suit or dress will do it! (haha, totally opposite to the somewhat clownish King’s Day in NL…)
Today is that unique and special day in the year when one day makes a whole year difference; we turn the imaginary page of time tonight and after celebrating it we wake up in a brand New Year. By then, page 2017 of the ‘book of life and the world’ has been completely written, and we have stored all experiences of the past year in it.
The year of 2017 has been a year of both continuity and change; running my company through a busy and successful year, Misha, my beautiful enthusiastic 6-year old angel, started school in NL. We’re cherishing our time together in NL and Norway, friends and family making my life complete. Many memorable moments and (dance) events to remember…the year flew by through the continuous process of letting go of past and getting to know the present and future possibilities…not my easiest year yet most is balanced in the end.
It is good to know that all the 2017 experiences are stored in a safe place; in my heart and my memory…I can look back, laugh, cry, read, learn, and all of that without any regrets!
Writing things down and then turning the page of time also means that things can be put to rest…it is a good moment to go on and look forward towards everything that future offers and say: “Oh, hi 2018! Here I am!!”
Time…it is o-so relative…I wish everyone a splendid life in the Now, filling each moment with unconditional love, sharing it and passing it on…❤️
Warmth, Light and LOVE to all!! ❤️
It is the first of a new month and as I started it this morning by saying ‘white rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit‘ so I will receive good luck for the whole month of October, yayyyy! 🙂 Apparently any combination of rabbits, white rabbits or bunnies will do, as long as it is said like a mantra. So, let the good luck flow in! 🙂
Despite some earlier (one-day) dance festivals earlier this year, only one qualifies as the traditional opening of the summer festival season: the Parkfeest in Oosterhout! 🙂
The first night is, as usual, ‘coverband night’ with: Joe Cocker Tribute, Deep White, Bruno Mars Tribute, Pearl Jamming and Tribute 2 Bob Marley. The stage tomorrow is filled with: Nielson, The Common Linnets, Kraantje Pappie, Jett Rebel, Kovacs, Van Dik Hout and Txarango (Barcelona based, Latin-American rhythms with reggae, pop and dub).
Sunday is family day and Misha is gonna be part of it; first time to go festivalling with my big little angel woohooo!! 🙂
Today Norway celebrates its Constitution (‘Grunnloven’) on May 17 better knows as ‘syttende mai’, so GRATULERER MED DAGEN Norge (Congratulations Norway)!!
Not the best weather, though it is dry and that is all we need! 🙂
We’ve had a nice champagne brunch (champagne for me and my parents, lemonade for Misha LoL), and just came home from the traditional ‘barnetoget’ (Childrens’ Parade). It was pretty special this year as Misha being a ‘pre-schooler’ led the parade, holding the banner together with his fellow pre-school friends! All dressed up and Misha with a pink hat (rosaruss) to mark the transfer from kindergarten to primary school.
Hurra for Norge, we’re all celebrating and waving flags!! 🙂
(and yes, we did have ice-cream, part of the ‘syttende man’ tradition 🙂 )
