Song of the Day: A Ride Through The Ages

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

Wow, I just realized that I haven’t put up a Song of the Day for aaaaages (December 13 2014 was the last one?!), so it’s about time! 🙂

To compensate for the lack of tunes these past months, you will find a rather different Song of the Day today; there are actually 14 songs (!) performed in a fabulous setting (uhhh, oh yeahhh LoL 🙂 ). Njoy the girls from SketchShe (oof…well done! 🙂 ) going wild on these 14 songs (‘Mime through Time’):

1. The Andrews Sisters – Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
2. Elvis Presley – Hound dog
3. The Beatles – Help!
4. Queen – We Will Rock You
5. Michael Jackson – Beat it
6. Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance With Somebody
7. Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit
8. Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg – Next Episode
9. Britney Spears – Baby One More Time
10. Eminem – The Real Slim Shady
11. Beyonce – Single Ladies ( Put A Ring On It)
12. Gotye Feat. Kimbra – Somebody That I Used To Know
13. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz – Thrift Shop
14. Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball

Song of the Day: Ping Pong

Saturday, December 13th, 2014

Over a month and no Song of the Day; a statistical ‘not-possible’ after a few fantastic concerts that I have seen in the past weeks, so…here we go:

This one is meant to bring back the friggin’-awesome atmosphere of last Saturday’s Armin ONLY – Intense concert!! Let me here it for Armin van Buuren with Ping Pong…whoop whoop!!

As this is the ‘official’ video and you miss the ‘touch of live’ from it, check out the pics below that I took at the show last week:

OK Go – I Won’t Let You Down

Thursday, November 6th, 2014

Wow, WoW, WOW…the alternative rock band OK Go did it again; their latest song ‘I Won’t Let You Down‘ is released with yet another spectacular video clip! After the motorized treadmills in ‘Here it Goes Again‘, a Rube Goldberg Machine in ‘This Too Shall Pass‘ and retractable pneumatic arms set up to play over 1000 instruments from a car in ‘Needing/Getting‘, they now have used 2300 dancers filmed by a drone-mounted camera!

Check it out, it is FAN-friggin’-TASTIC!! 🙂

Song of the Day: Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

We’re having a blast of a party at home this weekend as Misha is in once again in dancing mood! 🙂 He is hardly satisfied with the volume (too low according to him) and his latest favourite track is matching his daily routine; he is eating like an adult, doesn’t want to sleep (rrrrr), he dances till he drops and well, then starts all over, haha!

*This* track made him so happy today that I am happily turning it into the Song of the Day: ‘Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat‘ by Fatboy Slim, Riva Starr & Beardyman (the Calvin Harris Remix).

Haha, he is such an amazing little angel!! Daaaaance y’all! 🙂

Song of the Day: We’re Going to Ibiza!

Monday, June 30th, 2014

With less than 8 hours to go before the flight to sun and fun departs, I have this song going through my head…I can’t help it and actually, I don’t mind coz I love it…yeah, today there can be only one track that qualifies as Song of the Day: let me hear it for the Vengaboys with ‘We’re Going to Ibiza!‘!
Woohooooo! 🙂

Song of the Day: The Writing’s On the Wall

Saturday, June 28th, 2014

Wowww!!! OK Go, one of the most creative bands when it comes to video clips, did it again!!

Following their amazing video clips ‘This Too Shall Pass’, ‘Here it Goes Again‘ and ‘Needing/Getting‘ (click on the links to check ‘m out, they are really worth it!!), they have now explored the area of visual illusions!

Though the song might not be a specific Song of the Day track (still ok though), the clip is an uber-fantastic ‘Video Clip of the Day’, so it qualifies. Everything you see is actually a trick of the eye, watch the clip several times to catch them all. 🙂

So OK, here we go, let’s hear it (and see it) for OK Go with ‘The Writing’s On the Wall‘!

Njoy!

Song of the Day: Tsunami

Sunday, June 8th, 2014

There haven’t been so many Songs of the Day lately, the last one has been 2.5 months ago (?!) though this all does not mean I lost my interest in music, haha far from that! 🙂

With the fantastic bright and sunny summer weather of these days, the following song makes a day even better (every day actually 🙂 ); the amount of energy packed in pumping beats and intermittent flow…I LOVE it!

Enjoy ‘Tsunami‘ by DVBBS & Borgeous, so get your ass from the couch and DANCEEEEEE! 🙂

Song of the Day: Happy

Saturday, March 22nd, 2014

There was an obvious alternative for Bobby McFerrin’s song Don’t Worry, Be Happy in last Thursday’s International Day of Happiness post. Then again, I am not for obvious and, I like this alternative song so much that it ‘deserves’ its own blogpost…it just got promoted as Song of the Day! 🙂

From the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack this is Pharrell Williams with uhhh Happy!! I reckon this to be the most obvious Happy song of the year! 🙂

Every time I hear this song, I can’t sit still and feel the urge to sing along (which in turn makes the people around me unhappy 🙂 )…it has this instant ‘Happy-ON’ switch, I LOVE it!

‘Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do’ 🙂

Song of the Day: I Will Survive

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

The last night of my 5 days carnival experience is about to start which ‘naturally’ means that we are running in survival mode. 🙂

A last check revealed that most of the gladiators and gold-digger/pirate/mail(wo)man sidekicks can use a boost of energy and music is always a great source for energy. Our motto for tonight is SURVIVE so it should be no surprise that todays Song of the Day is ‘I will Survive‘ by Cake!

Personally I like this version much better than the original by Gloria Gaynor; way too much disco/dancing/swinging/upbeat/high pitched voices for me at this very moment! 🙂 (click this link though if you dare and/or prefer Gloria)

Enjoy y’all!

Song of the Day: The Boys are Back in Town

Friday, December 20th, 2013

There can be one and only one Song of the Day for a day (/days) like this…I know, I know, the blogpost title gave it away and yes indeed; please enjoy Thin Lizzy with The Boys are Back in Town…ha, we’ll be partying ’till we drop in Oslo tonight, TGIF!!! 😉

Interestingly enough, this song is not the happy-pappy-party-song you would think it is…nah, it turns out the song was inspired by both Manchester United supporters and a Manchurian wildbunch called the Quality Street Gang uhhhh?! The message of the song should be pretty universal, for street gangs! (“If the boys want to fight, you’d better let them”)

Oh well, whatever the initial inspiration for the song, I just like the vibe and find it very applicable for this weekend! 😉

Song of the Day: Little Red Corvette

Saturday, November 30th, 2013

I love my Songs of the Day, and especially on Saturday nights I noticed. No particular reason I’d say, as my Saturday nights can be pretty much similar to Sunday-Friday nights 😉 until I heard someone singing ‘But it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it all right’…and so it is!

The ones paying attention should not be surprised; that ‘someone’ is Prince (the greatest artist of all time), and the line is from his first big hit, ‘Little Red Corvette’, an erotic fusion of rock and funk combined with groovy guitar riffs and a great solo…I love it!!

And I wonder, for the ones paying attention (and actually, also the ones who don’t); do YOU think this song is about a car? Really??? Listen again and catch the metaphor…(or, read it below the YouTube clip 😉 )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U1U-GeyFa8

Read the lyrics, remember that most Prince songs are drained in sex and consider the following (just some of many): a pocket full of Trojans refers to Tr0jan condoms, The “jockeys” represent men who have previously slept with the girl, and well uhhh, Little Red Corvette refers to that most private place of a girl, below the belt…a change of perspective eh? 😉

Song of the Day: The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)

Saturday, November 9th, 2013

A YouTube clip with well over 200 million views, made by two brothers from Norway, and I didn’t know about it?? Have I been living under a rock?!? Well…living yes, under a rock nah; I was enjoying Peru&Bolivia when the clip was released (and went viral on YouTube)…a good enough reason I’d say! 😉

Misha knows the sound and moves of almost all animals, but when he was ask about a fox by (norwegian) friends today, he was silent…and actually everyone was…until we watched the mentioned YouTube clip, a worthy Song of the Day: The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?) by Ylvis, a norwegian comedy duo consisting of brothers Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker.

HI-LA-RI-OUS!!!!

(thx Per&Ingrid!)

Song of the Day: Intense

Friday, October 18th, 2013

Wow!! It has been over 4 months since I last posted a Song of the Day, amaaaaazing!!!

About time to change that…so, since it is Friday today (TGIF 😉 ), the Amsterdam Dance Event is ongoing, and although I am not going to the ADE 🙁 I still feel like partying, I chose today’s Song of the Day to be ‘Intense‘ by Armin van Buuren! (the #1 DJ of the 2012 DJ Magazine’s Top 100, results for 2013 will be announced at the ADE tomorrow and Hardwell (also dutch!) is the main candidate…)

Armin van Buuren on the album ‘Intense’: “It’s about finding your own light. And living life intensely, you’re only here once.”…I love that!!

*I* can’t sit still when I hear this track (and neither can Misha btw. 😉 )…can you??

Song of the Day: Nothing Compares 2 U

Friday, June 7th, 2013

The greatest artist of all time has his Birthday today, which is a great excuse to promote one of his songs to a Song of the Day…well, all of his songs are ‘Song of the Day’ worthy, so ‘excuses’ are not needed. It should be obvious, the artist is Prince, and for today I picked ‘Nothing Compares 2 U‘. Once again he wrote  a brilliant song, made famous by Sinead O’Connor.

The true meaning of this song might surprise you, not many are aware of it… 😉

As Prince is somewhat anti-internet (understatement 😉 ), an album version of the song performed by His Royal Badness cannot be found online, yet I believe that the clip below is a perfect ‘second-best’; Prince on stage together with Candy Dulfer (When I want sax, I call Candy 😉 )…Njoy y’all!

Song of the Day: Via Con Me

Saturday, May 4th, 2013

I noticed that most of my Song of the Day posts are done on a Saturday, I guess that the weekend spirit makes me rock eh? (I rock a lot lately as in the past period in essence every day is a weekend day haha 😉 ).

Todays Song of the Day is one that always, *always*, puts a smile on my face and makes me happy and wanna do the ‘funny-moves-dance’! 😉  I am sure that everyone knows this one; Paolo Conte with Via Con Me…my invite to you to smile and daaaance your funniest moves!! 😉

Song of the Day: Silence and I

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

A fresh layer of snow this morning makes walking in the forest an exciting experience; it is *o-so* quiet, I love it! That, and a specific mood today, got me thinking of one of Alan Parsons Project‘s best songs (evah! 😉 )…todays Song of the Day is ‘Silence and I‘ from the ‘Eye in the Sky‘ album (known for the image of the Eye of Horus on the cover, a symbol for protection I have been wearing the past three years).

The song is a brilliant mix of ‘silence’ performed via cryptic lyrics in a slow tempo, and an uptempo interlude which is the pure contract of ‘silence’…what *is* silence really?

Listen to the whole song and feel the balance…

Song of the Day: Sign ‘O’ The Times

Saturday, March 2nd, 2013

…and before you realise it, the first two months of 2013 are past us…it is amaaazing how fast the days go when you’re without a job hehe 😉 Time is an interesting phenomenon (all made up by us, human beings 😉 ) and thinking of it brings me to a fantastic Prince song (I felt like a Song of the Day today 😉 ). This one (once again) proofs what an outstanding songwriter Prince really is; yessss, my Song of the Day is Sign ‘O’ The Times!

It is the lead single off Prince‘s album of the same name from 1987…oof, that is 26 years ago uhhh no comment!

Oh well, what can I say…enjoy y’all!!

Song of the Day: The Turn of a Friendly Card

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

The hotel has background music playing in the courtyard, nice although the playlist is never changing and seems to be exactly 24 hours which means that I hear the exact same songs at the exact same time of day…everyday! Arrgghhh, repetition is so not my thing! 😉

Every morning at breakfast though I hear a particular song that I really like…my Song of the Day!

Please enjoy Alan Parsons Project with ‘The Turn of a Friendly Card (part 1)‘.

The song uses gambling as a metaphor for life; some people are waiting for the turn of a friendly card to make their lives change for the better. They are unhappy in the process of waiting yet don’t realize that they are their own master of their life…

Well, I’d rather take matters in my own hand, turn the cards myself and discover that though some cards are more friendly than others, all have something to learn in them! 😉

Nice last sentence while I am enjoying my retreat in the sun:

“But a pilgrim must follow in search of a shrine
As he enters inside the cathedral…”

Song of the Day: The Blower’s Daughter

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

Wow, it has been over two months since my last Song of the Day (pretty amazing for a music lover! 😉 ), so it is about time…

…time for: Damian Rice with ‘The Blower’s Daughter‘! The song continues to amaze and creates a magical flow and atmosphere (in Xmas terms; let it flow, let it flow, let it flow 😉 ).

The lyrics for this song can be interpreted in many ways (obsession and love of his life out of reach, though the ‘true meaning’ is here). For me it is mainly the music and of course THE sentence: ‘and so it is’…indeed, it IS! 😉

Enjoy!

Song of the Day: Money Don’t Matter 2 Night

Saturday, October 20th, 2012

Ha, a rainy Saturday afternoon calls for a Prince song! (any moment really calls for that, but hey 😉 )

Soooo many songs to choose from, yet hardly any to find on YouTube because of Prince’s averse against everything internet… 🙁

Still, I found one (and wonder for how long it will be available…)

The lyrics in this song just roll soooo smooth, yet address a big not so smooth issue which shapes the world around us; money, poverty, and greed: today’s Song of the Day: Prince with Money Don’t Matter 2 Night!

I never get enough of Prince…I love it!
