The countdown continues!

Back from Chamrousse

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Came back from my skiing holiday yesterday, really had a great time with lots of snow and sun…

I managed to force myself in a jetlag though; missed out on a good night sleep during the bustrip back (oof, those seats really are killing my back and neck!) and enjoyed last nights Oscars live on TV, with the girl on da couch…popcorn, M&M's and coke…yay!

Time to go to bed now, want to be in good shape for my last four days at work…!

Farewell dinner and gone for skiing

Friday, February 16th, 2007

My colleagues arranged a GREAT farewell dinner yesterday. Lot's of speeches, presents, love, laughter and a tear, a very special evening…thx dudes & dudettes, it really means a lot to me!

I do have four days left to work end of Feb, mainly to handover things internally. Before that I'll first enjoy the white mountains near Chamrousse…am SOOO looking forward to ski/snowboard those hills!! 🙂

I'll be back February 25, no posts till then.

Allard Lowenstein: "The question should be, is it worth trying to do, not can it be done."

Working in Norway, again!

Monday, February 12th, 2007

So, I'm back in Norway again…sjeez, I have been more here than in The Netherlands lately, it almost starts to feel like home?!? The hotelroom is not as comfortable as the house though…am really looking forward to be back home with my girl on Valentine's Day (actually evening only)!

Thursday is my last official day in the office and then I'm off to France to ski my brains out, yeahhh!!!

Call out to Free Trinity

Friday, February 9th, 2007

More on Free Trinity: I called in on Adam Curry's 'DSC-listener-hotline' (+44 207 681 3753) last Wednesday while I was stuck in a traffic jam on my way to Germany.

Adam played the comment on DSC #541 (thx dude!), but didn't respond to my question regarding the Free Trinity project: Why don't we hook up and drive her around for a day orso? I'll have some time on my hands from early March!

So…lemme know! 🙂

Countdown stops

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Change of plans; I will work some more days end of February / early March so my countdown will temporary stop, till I reach T – 5 days again 🙂

It's all good and I'll still be able to go skiing February 16-25, yay!

Thoughts on Music, CD 2.0

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Steve Jobs, on Apple.com: "Imagine a world
where every online store sells DRM-free music encoded in open
licensable formats. In such a world, any player can play music
purchased from any store, and any store can sell music which is
playable on all players. This is clearly the best alternative for
consumers, and Apple would embrace it in a heartbeat."

Wow!! Yet another example of Steve Jobs placing a bomb under traditional business practices and creating the new perspective, this time the music industry are challenged.

Just think of the iPod as an advanced CD (incl. player, CD 2.0??)…in the end both are 'just' devices with music loaded on them!

Google down?!?

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

WTF…first time I experienced this;

Google appears to be down, at least, most of their web-based services!!

I first noticed it with Gmail, Google Reader and Google Calendar (the apps I usually have open continuously), started loosing connection around 16:20h GMT.

First I thought it was related to my own internet-feed, but guess what? Other sites are loading perfectly, and I found also google.com to be down hard! (isn't it funny how you start searching the source for a problem at your own end before finding out it is actually located on the other end?!)…wow, it perfectly shows me how much I start to rely (and depend!) on the always available online services, oof!

New email address active

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

I enabled Google Apps for Your Domain earlier for my raymondpoort.com domain and configured email. Last weekend I finally found the time to integrate this into my regular gmail-account and am now ready to start using it!

A milestone, right? So, the first one to email me on raymond (at) raymondpoort (dot) com will be rewarded, I decide what & how! 🙂

Counting down…

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

There are just 10 days left at work, it truly feels amazing that habits created in almost 10 year working in the same environment are about to radically change. Obviously I am myself and will stay close to my own feelings and values, still, life *will* be different…exciting!!

Rabbit, rabbit

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

…saying “rabbit, rabbit” upon waking on the first day of a new month will give good luck for the remainder of the month…

Wow…I'll stop working this month, lucky me 🙂

Including today I've got only 11 days left, the final countdown has started!
