Just one word: FABULOUS!

(pictures to come)

Lost volleyball match

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Just to keep the records straight…the day before we left we played DEO, the number 2 in the competition and our biggest threath to a possible championship…we started off perfect, but couldn’t hold up and lost 3-1 🙁

The only positive thing about this is personal; I will not miss the championship match! (then again, I’d rather have won the game and secure the championship…)

Luggage arrived

Monday, March 13th, 2006

3am this night…a car drives up the drive-way…we’re both awake for no obvious reason…a guy gets out of the car and…OUR LUGGAGE!!!

Feels so much better to have all our stuff here!

Arrived in Banff

Monday, March 13th, 2006

We arrived safely in Banff last night, just after midnight.

I found an open wireless internet link, so am able to post some more in the coming weeks, pictures too if I find a way to get them off the camera (forgot the usb cable rrrrrrr)

Most of the journey was quite good, we were very lucky on the KLM flight from Amsterdam, got the two business-class seats normally reserved for the cockpit crew! A major bummer that we had to take shifts in the cockpit when the captain wanted to rest a bit he he he 🙂 🙂

I got a cockpit permit (picture will come later!) and was in the cockpit during landing, always an amazing experience!

As seen in the previous post, yesterday in Vancouver we found out the hard way that in the start of the springbreak weekend is a bad choice (if only we knew before!)…schools are closed, kiddos are traveling, planes are full 🙁 🙁

It made the 'last mile' Vancouver-Calgary quite difficult 🙁

Traveling with standby tickets we were turned down on four flights and were really, really lucky to catch a flight at all on Saturday, the guy at the counter didn't expect us to make it!

Here in Banff life promises to be great, weather is cold but sunny, the Bed & Breakfast is nice and cosy and we met up with Scott and Claire.

The last thing we would like to have is….our luggage…!!!!! Yeah, Air Canada managed (again!) to loose our luggage. Last reports tell us that it should be delivered at 3am this night (!!!)

travelpain…

Short update from Vancouver Airport…we picked the start of the springbreak holiday this weekend to travel from Vancouver to Calgary 🙁

A no go so far, but we stay optimistic…we’ll get there in the end!!!

Canada, here we come!

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

On our way out! Wish us luck as we’re flying on standby 🙂

New car!

Friday, March 10th, 2006

Finally…

The process took quite a while, but the verdict is out…*this* is my new (company) car!

Not bad, eh?

Almost finished packing!

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Just one more day and I'm outta here…Canada here we come! YESSSSSSS!!!

Since I've got an important volleyball match tomorrow evening, most of the packing was done tonight…ready, set…almost GO! 🙂

Pie eating contest COMPLETED!

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

I have spent most of my day in Brussels for work, but was able to complete the pie eating contest just before I left early this morning…exactly 15 bites!!! 🙂

The proof is in the pudding, so:

Pie eating contest

Nice one for pie addicts…I managed to ‘eat’ the pie in 16 bites, can you do better?

It’s the first time I experienced an outage this long since I started using the service a year ago…anyone else having the same problem??

*** UPDATE *** 11:45h Gmail is online again! YEAHHHH! 🙂

Life lessons

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three R’s:
– Respect for self,
– Respect for other’s and
– Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great relationship
7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

This evenings volleyball match

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

We played again this evening, the 17th match of the season. It was far from brilliant, but good enough; we beat Red Stars 3-1.

With 5 matches to go and still 4 points ahead on number 2 the championship is coming close. Next week Friday we play against the number 2, DEO…THAT will be the game to win!!

I managed to plan my 2 weeks skiing holiday in Canada (YEAH baby YEAH!) starting just after that game, hope it will work out just fine. 🙂

Weekend in the Ardens (or Ardennes?!?)

Monday, February 27th, 2006

We've had a great weekend in the Belgian Ardens/Ardennes!

Enjoyed great friendship, good discussions, both the hot and the cold (bbrrrr), the city of Luxembourg, thriller X-box gaming and close-combat Catan games! 🙂

Last but not least:……..

……GREAT NATURE:

Friendly volleyball match

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

I just came back from a volleyball game, we played a friendly match against VVV in 'Den Hoorn'. We used the game to try out a new teammember who will replace me for two weeks (when I'm in Canada from March 11th…YEAHHHH!!!).

Have got nothing much to say about the match, it was BADDDD! We played like a bunch of beachballs…I guess we can only concentrate us if there is something at stake.

Am looking forward to a nice long weekend in the Ardens (or Ardennes?!?) with Suzanne & Robbert…loads of nature and non-poluted air, will be nice for a change 🙂

Reduced Shakespeare Company

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

My baby took me on a surprise date tonight! We went to see the Reduced Shakespeare Company, I had heared a fair bit close to nothing of them before which made it a double surprise! 🙂

"The RSC is a three-man comedy troupe known for taking long, serious subjects and reducing them into short, sharp comedies."

"This night they played ‘All the Great Books (abridged)’ in which they took us on a ninety-eight minute roller-coaster ride through its compact compendium of the World’s Great Books"……I guess it’s clear this text came from various sources, not me 🙂

They are touring through The Netherlands till March 11th, check the dates and try to make it, it’s great for illiterates and self-imposed wannabees…one can learn something new every day!!

March of the Penguins

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Saw ‘March of the Penguins’ tonight, amazing movie/documentary…it gives me a complete new insight in the life of emperor penguins.

My first penguin impressions were formed by the PINGU THROW game 🙂 :).

Check out yetisports.org for cool games!

brrreeeport

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

Funky experiment by Robert Scoble (aka Scobleizer, Microsoft’s own geek-blogger); add the word brrreeeport (have no clue what it means, but that’s the point!) to your blog and see how fast the search engines pick it up…you’re in? 🙂

Valentine’s Day
