Smile of the Day: A Cold Day in Hell

Friday, January 3rd, 2014

The following is an actual question given on a University of Arizona chemistry mid term, and an actual answer turned in by a student. The answer by one student was so ‘profound’ that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.
Uhhh, ‘an actual question/answer’?? Well, as there are multiple versions of the story and apparently the professor has said that an ex-student added fact to fantasy to create the problem about hell (?!) my guess is that the question and answer are not so ‘actual’ at all. Still, it is a great great answer to a real question! 😉

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

“First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely.. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, ‘It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,’ and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct…..leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting ‘Oh my God.’ ”

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

Chuck says Happy New Year

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

You might have seen Jean-Claude Van Damme carrying out his famous split between two reversing Volvo trucks as a demonstration the precision and directional stability of Volvo Dynamic Steering (so, it is basically an advertisement duh 😉 ).

It has never been done before, the video was shot in one take (!) and JCVD says it’s the most epic of splits. Check it out below, and then…read on to find out if that statement is actually true……

Chuck Norris disagrees with JCVD’s statement…Epic? Epic?? I’ll show you EPIC!! 😉

Happy New Year and dream on JCVD…LoL

Happy 2014!

Wednesday, January 1st, 2014

Happy New Year y’all!

After a year in which I was able to nurture my daddy skills 😉 , enjoy quality time of really BEing with Misha, exploring the world (from sunny beaches, magical city(/ies) filled with fantastic culture and amazing nature) and preparing for the next step in my professional career, I am ready to make 2014 a success, so let’s get started!

Oh, I am no guy for New Years resolutions so don’t expect them here. 😉 I believe more in New Day resolutions…in the end, January 1 is ‘just’ another new day, eh? (especially when you consider that half the world population (China and India) celebrate New Year on a different date!)

Turning the page of time

Tuesday, December 31st, 2013

Today is that unique and special day in the year when one day makes a whole year difference; we turn the imaginary page of time tonight and after celebrating it we wake up in a brand New Year. By then, page 2013 of the ‘book of life and the world’ has been completely written, and we have stored all experiences of the past year in it.

The year of 2013 has been a year completely different as any other year; not filled with work as all those years before, an amazing year with a lot of quality time to really BE with Misha, some fantastic trips exploring the world, letting go of past and getting to know the present and future possibilities…it was not always easy but I feel balanced in the end.

It is good to know that all the 2013 experiences are stored in a safe place; in my heart and memory…I can always look back, laugh, cry, read and learn if needed, and…without regrets!

Writing things down and then turning the page of time also means that things can be put to rest…it is a good moment to go on and look forwards towards everything that future offers, 2014 here I come!!

Time…o-so relative…I wish everyone a splendid life in the Now, filling each moment with unconditional love, and sharing it…

Year in flights

Saturday, December 28th, 2013

Today was my last flight of 2013!

Despite not working in 2013 I did fly as much as any other year (or actually, even more!) and had some great destinations; it all started in January with a vacation in sunny Curaçao and was soon followed with a citytrip to magical Marrakech in February. It took until August&September before I made the biggest trip of all; Peru&Bolivia…what an amazing experience that was, in my heart…goodddd times!

All of the other months I have been in NL at least once and made in total 27 one-way flights between OSL and AMS (including one unplanned re-route OSL-Paris?!?-AMS).

What can I say, I love to fly! (and yes, it has been enough for this year 😉 )

Zalig Kerstfeest / God Jul / Merry Christmas, also for cats…

Wednesday, December 25th, 2013

Xmas is all about Light, Warmth and LOVE for one another and today I was able to share some of mine with an animal in need; a little cat (pussycat it turned out, her name is ‘Snoes’! 😉 ) got stuck behind city walls and has been trying to get back up (for days it seemed) without success…glad I/we passed by and heard her meowing…HAPPY that I was able to save her, especially on this Xmas Day!

Merry Xmas y’all!

‘Wrong’ yet genius answers

Sunday, December 22nd, 2013

What to do if you don’t know the answer to a test question? You come up with a answer which is ‘wrong’ according to the teacher (but how much does he/she know?), yet simply genius by thinking out-of-the-box (and really reading the question as-is).

Check out the 38 Test Answers That Are 100% Wrong But Totally Genius At The Same Time…pretty good stuff! 😉

Global Orgasm Day…yay! ;)

Saturday, December 21st, 2013

Globalorgasm.org: “This is the 8th year of the Global Orgasm for World Peace, held annually on the December Solstice & New Year. Millions of satistfied people around the world have participated, saying Yes! to World Peace in their own special way. Through links with the Noosphere Project at Princeton University, and more recently The Center for Subtle Activism, the Global O has been able to contribute in a unique way to the new sciences of the collective mind. We ask that you vote for a brighter future with your orgasm. Use it to pray for Peace. With you will be millions of people around the world.”

The symbol below is not just a symbol for the Global O, but an ancient emblem representing our shared basic nature. One of wisdom, compassion, wholeness & bliss. Imagine it, and peace on earth, you dedicate your orgasms.

Are you in?? 😉

Things you should not give up to be HAPPY

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

Purpose Fairy: “After doing so much work on improving myself and my life, I have come to realize that happiness is nothing more than a balance between holding on and letting go. In order for you to be really happy, all you have to do is let go of the things that make you unhappy and hold on to those things that make you happy. It’s that simple and yet that complicated.”

Earlier in 2012 posted the Purpose Fairy’s 15 things you should give up to be HAPPY. The 15 items below are the other side of the same happiness coin; the 15 things you should NOT give up to be HAPPY:

1. Don’t give up on love

2. Don’t give up on real friendships

3. Don’t give up thankfulness

4. Don’t give up integrity

5. Don’t give up hope

6. Don’t give up on your dreams

Anouk in Concert

Monday, December 16th, 2013

Earlier this year Dutch singer-songwriter (and rockbitch 😉 ) Anouk had to cancel some of her ‘Symphonica in Rosso‘ concert and these have been moved to tonight (and Thursday) in a smaller, more intimate setting. Accompanied by Guido’s OrchestraAnouk ROCKED the Ziggo Dome stage! What a voice, she didn’t miss a single note…WoW, what a fantastic concert…good times!!

Christmas miracles do happen

Friday, December 13th, 2013

The YouTube video below shows a fantastic initiative by WestJet; great marketing in a true Xmas spirit! (it reminded me a bit of KLM’s “Surprise” Social Media experiment from 2010)

Haha, I guess the “socks and underwear” guy will have some regrets…

Winter wonderland at 5 minutes

Thursday, December 12th, 2013

It is truly fantastic to live so close to incredible nature as I do; the Lysdammen lake at 5 minutes is such an example. It has many faces, below is its early winter face. The first picture was taken just before the ‘real’ snow arrived…walking on a freshly frozen lake is always exciting, will it hold? (it did 😉 ) The other pictures, well…breathtaking winter wonderland…me like!

A real time saver!

Wednesday, December 11th, 2013

Time is flying like crazy these days and there are much more important and nicer things to do in life than laundry…it is just a small thing, but this helps me, a real time saver! 😉

Sinterklaas 2013 and fun in this year’s first snow

Tuesday, December 10th, 2013

The past days have been pretty pretty nice here in Norway; first we celebrated the dutch tradition of Sinterklaas (two times! 😉 ), Misha didn’t quite understand the concept behind it (neither do most foreigners 😉 ), but wrapped gifts are always a hit and really, what can beat a rubber duck?? 😉

On Sunday the (real) snow arrived, finally, and it didn’t take long for Misha to remember the fun we had last year…and start all over again!

This year’s bonus, he is now able (and more than willing!!) to help me shovel the snow in front of the garage, yay! 😉

And today, the Xmas season began! It has been here for some weeks actually, but as a dutchie I can’t start until Sinterklaas is gone…Misha made pepperkake (keppekake according to him 😉 ) in the kindergarten today…ho ho hooooo!! 😉

Beard Facts

Monday, December 2nd, 2013

WorldObserverOnline.com: “Gentlemen, they’re not just for hipsters and the homeless any more. While both dead sexy and totally awesome, beards are also a boon to your overall health. Researchers discovered that men with beards and moustaches actually enjoy numerous benefits including, but not limited to, instant handsomeness.”

Haha, scientific proof, finally! (says he who is happy and bearded since March 2007! 😉 )

Hiking in my backyard forest

Sunday, December 1st, 2013

It has been a very nice weekend; pretty sunny, not too cold and the world covered in a thin (very thin 😉 ) layer of snow. Perfect conditions for a hike in my backyard forest, destination Lysdammen lake. Normally a 5 minute stroll, which turned into a 2,5 hour hike when going with Misha LoL! 😉 ‘Armed’ with a twig, two happy dudes enjoying nature and each other’s company…I love it!!

Smile of the Day: KFC Witness Protection Program

Friday, November 29th, 2013

I am not a fan of eating meat (understatement 😉 ), so any animal saved from being served as (fast-)food makes me feel goooddd!

That, and the fine memories of loads of flamingos in Bolivia made me ROTFLMAO when I saw this picture…LoL!

Life balloons

Thursday, November 28th, 2013

We all have our own life story, our own experience, bagage, things to deal with, to learn, to accept, to carry with us, to love and remember.
Hélène Leroux created a fantastic animation film about all of this; our life, the people we meet, the memories we make (represented by balloons)…a nice metaphor!
