Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code?!?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I was halfway writing a blogpost to make mention of the fact that it has been exactly one year ago today that Adam Curry recorded his last Daily Source Code, DSC#821. And that it would be great to have the show back, or at least have an anniversary episode…or convert it into something like a YSC, Yearly Source Code! 😉

…it must have been channeled through, since I hear Adam say TODAY that he actually plans to go back into DSC-mode (he mentioned this in the No Agenda #173 podcast of February 11)…well, that is FANTASTIC news!

I am sure that many with me will appreciate the return of the Rachmaninoff intro, Metrosexual moments and other special moments (still giving me a boost of energy!), Red Pill Blue Pill stuff (much of that in the No Agenda show actually, higly recommended if you are interested in an alternative view on the news!!), adventures of the Delta Sierra (the Cesna 172 RT airplane which is up for sale actually!), Trinity (the 1984 yellow Mercedes station wagon running on biodiesel), Charles the drunken Londener, Comic Strip Blogger, Adam’s PCPQ (Prostate Cancer Prevention Quotient), Fubar Friday, Mashups, Jan Polet’s HitTest and more, much more!

So Adam, what’ya say? When can we expect the DSC coming back? Perhaps a DSC#822 today, for old times sake? 😉

Valentine’s Day Birthdays

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

It seems that Valentine’s Day is a popular day to have a Birthday; 5 out of my 185 Facebook friends have their Birthday on today! Statistically there should be 1 Birthday every two days, so 5 on one single day are a many!

I guess that the love and affection associated with Valentine’s Day has something to do with it? 😉

And for my Norwegian friends; perhaps the celebrations (and drinking) on May 17, the Norwegian Constitution Day, has some effect? After all, May 17 is nine months before February 14! 😉

Frisbee ‘inventor’ dead at 90

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

The father of the Frisbee, Fred Morrison, died last February 9 at the respectable age of 90 years.

The story goes that he got the inspiration for this flying-saucer toy in 1937 at a Thanksgiving feast in Southern California. He and his girlfriend, Lucile “Lu” Nay, entertained themselves by tossing a popcorn-tin lid in the backyard. The lid eventually became dented, ruining its aerodynamic potential, and the resourceful couple snatched a cake pan from Mr. Morrison’s mother’s kitchen.
Cake pans, it turned out, were sturdier and flew better – so much so that one day, when the two were flinging a pan back and forth on the beach, an impressed passerby offered to buy it. The pan had originally cost a nickel, the stranger offered a quarter – and that exchange was enough to whet Mr. Morrison’s entrepreneurial appetite.
“That got the wheels turning,” he told a Norfolk, Va., reporter in 2007. “There was a business.”

Quite some business indeed; who hasn’t thrown a frisbee once at a picnic or on the beach?

Eurovision Song Contest

Friday, February 12th, 2010

The Dutch selected the song to represent NL in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest (held in Norway btw.). Wow, what an amazing song…NOT, aahhhhh!! It is so not my type of music…a terrible song, shitty lyrics,

A late flight to the homeland

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

And…we’re back in NL again! 😉 This year has been a pretty steady ‘one-trip-a-week-to-NL’, or at least, it feels that way…no complaints though!
For some reason January and February have been like this the last couple of years, you would say I should be used to it by now, eh? 😉

The Oslo fjord in wintertime

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

The fog disappeared today and I was able to enjoy the nice view over the Oslo fjord that this hotel is known for. Pretty neat, eh?

Haha, the first to make it across the fjord gets a beer! (besides cold feet and a wet suit!) 😉

The hotel with fjord view

Monday, February 8th, 2010

I’ve got some days of training ahead of me, developing leadership skills…that always comes in handy, eh? 😉 The location for the training is a hotel with a great view over the Oslo fjord, at least that’s what the brochure says…at the moment it’s foggy and dark so not too much to see. And no swimming since the fjord is frozen! Better to come back in summertime for that and concentrate now on the training! 😉

The One Week App

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Today iPhone developer Sahil Lavingia has begun his project of building an iPhone app in one week while the world watches.

He will keep a blog on his progress on OneWeekApp.com with screenshots, timelapse movies, and other notes about his work as he moves forward.

Looking at the popularity of the AppStore with its huge variety of applications (>140,000 already!) for the iPhone / iPod Touch and soon the iPad, this sure seems a 2010 reality show!

The application is called Dayta, “Your weight, your kill-to-death ratio in a first-person shooter, your daily intake of water (eight glasses a day, they say!), or your daily workout which you must… not… missed, again. There are individual apps for all of these things. But why? Think about this: tracking your weight is recording down a single number, daily. So is your kill-to-death ratio. So is your daily intake of water. So is whether or not you go to the gym today (either a 0 or a 1). If you reduce activities down to the numbers that represent them, it’s easy to see that one app can manage them all. Meet Dayta.”

A journey through space and time

Friday, February 5th, 2010

The American Museum of Natural History created ‘The Known Universe’, a film that takes you on a journey through space and time, from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space, passing planets, stars and quasars, ‘out’wards to the afterglow of the Big Bang, all represented to scale and in the correct measured locations.

So, let’s buckle up and GO!

Doppelgänger & urbandictionary.com on Facebook

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

All you Facebook addicts out there have probably seen the two latest trends: Doppelgänger and urbandictionary.com.

The Doppelgänger game/trend is when you change your profile picture to someone famous (actor, musician, athlete) you’ve been told you look like. Not for me, I like my SpongeBob Squarepants picture too much! 😉

This weeks other big hit is for you to go to urbandictionary.com, type in your first name, copy and paste this as your status and the first entry for your name under comments. I tried it and this is what came up:

Raymond

“A male that is wanted by every women who has ever seen him. Gets boned very often and has a VERY large penis. He’s extremely good looking and one of the funniest kids in the USA. He has the most gorgeos eyes in the world and has been told on more than one occasion that he should try out for playgirl when he reaches the age of 18. Total playa and pimp. Completely loaded with cash and gives money to all if they ask and are his friend.”

Uhhh….

Home snowy home

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

I arrived home just before midnight, a smooth flight and slippery drive, since snow found its way to Norway again! Ha, and what better thing to do than shoveling snow to clean the area in front of the garage, hmmppfff!
Oh well, the job is done and it’s time to go zzzz, nighty night y’all!

Rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Hey, hey, it’s the first day of yet another month! February 2010…damn, time goes lightning fast these days!! At least this is gonna be my lucky month, now that I’ve started it by saying: ‘rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit‘! 😉

Tv shows and movies

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

I blogged earlier about eztv.it, the one stop (BitTorrent) source for all your favorite TV shows ‘offering’ torrents for most TV shows out there!

You might however not know how to get that ‘torrent-thing’ working, or you’re afraid of potential legal consequences…well, then fast pass tv is your highway to TV shows and movies! This website ‘offers’ just about anything you want to see, all via direct links to streaming tv and movies: search, click and start watching, for free! 😉

The catch?

Well, there are some annoying pop-ups (don’t click on the links! 😉 ) and you might need to equip your browser with a flash, divx or veoh webplayer (follow the instructions your browser gives you)…and that’s it!

TGIF?!?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

There is only one day a week when you can yell out loud: TGIF!!

Today is a bit different though; I’m still in the office and Friday has almost past… 🙁 …it seems more appropriate to say: TGIS (yes, that is ‘Thank God It’s Saturday’, for you blonds reading this! 😉 )

Skiing

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Yayyy! I went skiing tonight, my first time this season…damn, I missed that! He he, the season has begun, bring it on!!

iPad it is, iPad it will be!

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

The predictions and rumors were correct; Apple announced its newest creation, the iPad, a revolutionary device for web, email, photos, videos, music, games, e-books and more.

I wasn’t too sure if this would be something for me, but after seeing what I saw so far it definitely is! (no surprise actually ;))

With its superb UI, great design, and for a price that is considerably lower than expected (starting at $499), this one is gonna be huge and market shaping/creating!

Read more about it on the web, there are a zillion sites with all information!

iTablet, iSlate, iPad??

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Tomorrow is a big day in Apple world; their long awaited tablet computer will be announced and presented in a special event starting at 10am Pacific Time (19:00h in Oslo)!

The big question is: what will be its name? iTablet, iPad, iSlate are the most common names heard at the moment. That and of course the actual device itself and its specs are the only things unknown to the masses at the moment.

It is actually one of the first times that everyone is absolutely sure about what new (revolutionary) product will be presented without physical proof…normally there are rumors, somewhat ‘confirmed’ by the technology experts/guru’s, but this time Steve Jobs as well as Apple’s CFO and COO have given enough clear hints to make it reality.

The invitation for the event reveals not much though, as usual we have to wait until Steve Jobs takes the stage! 😉

Videos of the Depeche Mode concert

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Two videos I recorded last Saturday!!

(and sorry for the distorted sound quality, typical mobile phone overmodulation)

Good timing, sync & click

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Today has been quite a day of  ‘great timing to be in NL’:

My sister *and* my nephew have their Birthdays today, so: Happy Birthday Sis & Tygo! It was great to see and congratulate them (and pick up some homemade applepie in the process! 😉 ).

I was also pleased to be able to see Stefanie & Rob. Her mother passed away yesterday morning and being there does so much more than a phone call…we all know that it is good as it is, and still it sucks.

The third moment of great timing was for Axel to arrive from Indonesia this morning, I was able to meet him at the airport just before I left…yeah, today life synced and clicked!!

And all that after 3 hours sleep last night…he he, Depeche Mode and Antwerp were great and kept us busy till 8:30am this morning! 😉

Depeche Mode in concert

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Robbert and I are going to the Depeche Mode ‘Tour of the Universe’ concert in Antwerpen tonight…am SO looking forward to it!

It’s time to hit da road…he he, I just can’t get enough! 😉
