WTF? licensed music banned from podcasting…

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Check out Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code #275 of last Tuesday (shownotes), guess the established media is feeling the pressure…any licensed music is banned from the DSC 🙁

This includes The Hittest by Jan Polet and Backtracks Podcast…pity because these initiatives were great fun to listen to!

Guess we can conclude that it was heaps of fun while it lasted, the good thing about it is that the Podsafe Music Network will get a major boost. This might turn out to be the best thing that could happen…:)

We’ll be back…Podsafe music rules! As Adam mentioned: Rock on!

Way to go dude!

The MacCast 100!!

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Congrats to Adam Christianson with the 100th episode of The MacCast!

I’m a big fan of the show and listening since February this

year…having (finally) switched to Mac (mini) in May, you bet I’m a

happy mac user and MacCast listener!

Hardly any time to post these days, I’m still alive though (working my ass off…again!)

Stay tuned!

New car!

Friday, November 4th, 2005

My company car is at the end of its lease. so I am checking my options

for a new one…mommy, I found one that I would really want!!! The

brand new Alfa Romeo 159:

Cool, eh? Will discuss pricing this weekend!

Coincidentally Adam Curry is also looking for a new car (as the lease

of his Audi A8 expires end of the year)…there *is* however a small

difference in our selection as seen on his weblog. just a small one 🙂

Indoor climbing

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

I went climbing yesterday…indoor climbing that is!

Having never done this before, I must say it’s a great thing and actually more

difficult than expected. You use muscles that you didn’t know the

existence of 🙂

My best friend from Down-Under, Mike, introduced me to this sport (he’s

doing this several years already) and I went to a climbing wall

(‘klimmuur’ in dutch) in The Hague (climbing center ‘Steep Part’)

All in all it went pretty good for the first time, even though I didn’t

manage to climb a part with a over hang (when the wall is slightly

coming to you and you’re climbing ‘underneath’ it), sjeez…those

climbs are TOUGH! My underarms and hands are feeling the work they did

yesterday, showing myself that I gave it my best shot.

I learned that

climbing is actually all about saving your energy, using technique and

your brains and not brute power to climb up. You still need some

mucle-power though, so I will train especially my arms for the next

time!

Cape Town pictures

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

Got some spare time this weekend (I just *love* that extra hour when

the clocks are turned back to end the Daylight Savings Time!!)…put

the Cape Town pictures on the web!

High school reunion

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Tonight I’ll go to a reunion of my high school…hope to see some ex-schoolmates, fun!

Am actually member of the society organizing this reunion, check out our site (in dutch)!

Back again!

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

South Africa was FA-BU-LOUS!

The trip to and from were pretty hard, but the beauty of Capetown was worth the stress.

I finally arrived early Wednesday morning, flew Tuesday night from

Frankfurt to Capetown with South African Airlines…really nice flight,

I *love* the PVS – Personal Video System :).

In a nutshell; went to the wine estate ‘Vergelegen’ on Wednesday, saw

jumping whales and youngs in Hermanus bay on Thursday (W-O-W!!! Made

shitloads of photos) and climbed the Table Mountain on Friday.

The days were pretty packed, got the most out of the time!

The flight back was a disaster 🙁 🙁

We knew it would be full, which is the usual downside of flying on

cheap airline staff/standby tickets. I was however never taken of a

flight while already sitting in the plane! Bummer…

To keep a long story short, together with two others having standby

tickets (Frank and Willem-Jan) we stayed one extra day in a nice B&B (The Tyger Table Villas Guest house), thanks to the owner Annette for the great service!

We flew back

with British Airways Saturday night to London, arriving Sunday late morning in

Amsterdam.

Yet another great experience, will put some photos on the web soon!

Kissy’s Birthday!

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

Happy Birthday babe! Kristel is turning 31 today.

Frankfurt here I come!

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

KLM was again fully booked today, dammit!

My best shot is via Frankfurt, I just booked the tickets! Wish me luck!! 🙂

Bummer, still no holiday!

Monday, October 17th, 2005

So…I didn’t make it to todays flight to Cape Town, BUMMER!!

It was fully booked, luckily there were some ‘no-shows’ and I missed out on just one (non!)-available seat…ONE SEAT!! 🙁 🙁

Spent the day (and evening) in the office, nice back-up plan, ah? 🙁

Well…better luck tomorrow!

That flight is also fully booked, so let’s hope 30 orso people don’t make it (because they miss their transfer orso)!! 🙂

Holiday!!

Monday, October 17th, 2005

…Capetown here I come!

Really need a short holiday, hope there is at least one empty spot in

the airplane! Standby tickets are cheap, but can be nerve wrecking! 🙂

Don’t want to go through the same shit again!

Cya later y’all!

frEdSCAPEs & DSC #1

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

I got a nice email yesterday from Fred Zelders (aka frEdSCAPEs), a fellow Daily Source Code fan from day one 🙂

He was searching for DSC #1 (recorded 13-08-2004) and was wondering if I might still have it…

OFCOURSE! 🙂

I directly made it available for him, that’s what podcast-fans are for, eh?

It was funny to find out that he listened to the DSC in which I ‘met’

Adam Curry last year, while walking his dog…yeah, podcasting is

completely mobile, in more ways than just one.

Read his post about the lost first DSC episode (in dutch)…eehhh, nice picture dude! 🙂

Steve Jobs did it again! :)

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

Yesterday Apple showed (as mentioned on the invitation); ‘just one more thing’;

The Video iPod!!!! W-O-W!!

They keep surprising the community, even Adam Curry got it wrong 🙂

Besides the intended usage, I’m sure it will give a major boost to ‘vidcasting’ (the video equivalent of podcasting)!

iTunes 6 was released to support videos on your iPod, hope they ‘solved’ some of the issue I have with iTunes/iPod and podcasting…will check when I upgraded from version 5.0.1.

Next to that a new iMac G5 was introduced, bummer for everyone who just

purchased this great computer…that’s life, eh? If only I had the

money…:)

CD / DVD burning

Wednesday, October 12th, 2005

Guess I’m not used to the DVD era yet:

Am creating back-up copies of some of my DVDs (to take them with me on

the road…the originals always stay in da house obviously!).

Now, the ‘Queen – Live at Wembley Stadium’ registration is actually 2

DVDs..guess what I wrote on the first one: ‘CD 1/2’…euhhh…:)

DSC special moment, closing the circle

Wednesday, October 12th, 2005

Funny…I was called last Monday by a good friend, who told me that while jogging he listened to last Friday's DSC256 and guess what: he heared Adam playing the infamous 'special DSC moment' clip for the one year anniversary!!
Now, that closes the circle, eh? Check my earlier post for more on this.

podcasts.yahoo.com

Monday, October 10th, 2005

New site of the day…and here to stay! For everyone interested in podcasting…http://podcasts.yahoo.com.

Interesting to see what the spin-off will be, now that also Yahoo is in!

weblogs.com sold

Monday, October 10th, 2005

For everyone who didn’t know yet (where have you been? :))…Dave Winer has sold weblogs.com! Well done buddy, some $$ for the efforts  throughout the last years…BOINNGGGGG! 🙂 🙂

DSC shownotes

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

Adam is making use of WIKI shownotes for his ‘Delta Sierra Charlie’-podcast…awesome!!

(thanks to Michael Ridley for the WIKI setup!)

‘just’ one year ago…

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

…we didn't know what podcasting would become…there was this stomach feeling, but a 100 million listeners march?? NO WAY!! Well, think again…a lot can happen in 'just' one year.

It still is kind of crazy when I think back of it;

I bet there were only somewhere in the 100's podcast listeners, worldwide! I myself was listening from DSC #1, but only owned my iPod for a few days, enabling me to listen to a DSC during my commute on that particular day, October 7th 2004…traffic jam…I see an Audi A8…think by myself, wouldn't it be funny if Adam Curry was driving that car (I knew he owned an A8)…thought it wouldn't be possible as the license plate was dutch (and he was living in Belgium at the time)…I pass the car…look inside the car…and…it's just like a studio…the one and only 'studio A8' and Adam is mastering the recordings!!! 🙂
As they say; the rest is history…recorded on 'tape' to remind us this was one of the breaking points in podcasting history (a true 'god'cast as Dave Winer once called it!)…so, check it out!!!

Adam, great that you played the clip today on DSC #256, it's a nice thing to share with all the people who came on board since last year…not more than 'just' a few, eh? 🙂 🙂
